FOOTBALL followers in the Cardigan area have expressed disappointment over the Costcutter League Youth Cup Final between Cardigan and St Dogmaels being staged at Ffostrasol.

The final was due to be played last night and league fixture secretary Aled Davies confirmed the game was going ahead as planned.

Many people in Cardigan and St Dogmaels have asked why the game was not at Maes Radley in Cardigan the home of Maesglas which has a first-rate pitch and facilities.

Saints first team manager Steve Jerry Williams said “Taking a game between the two to Ffostrasol and making people travel just doesn’t make sense.

“The majority of people wanting to see the game are from this area. If league officials say they can’t charge on the gate at Maes Radley then make a collection. I’m sure that the crowd a stone’s throw from the town centre would have been far in excess of what they’d get at Ffostrasol.

“Common sense is needed in such situations,” he said.

Agreeing with the sentiments his Cardigan opposite Seamus Doherty also felt that the game should have been at Maes Radley.

“Boys finishing work after 5pm have to rush to make it to Ffostrasol when the game could be staged within walking distance of the town centre and there would be a far bigger crowd,” he said.

Aled Davies said “I don’t know how arrangements are made for venues but there is only one entrance at Ffostrasol so people coming to the game have to pay.”

He added that the venue for the game was made before it was known who was in the final.

Asked why the final was not switched to Maes Radley he said “We had already asked Ffostrasol who made arrangements and it would have been rather rude to take the game somewhere else.”

St Dogmaels supporter Dai Davies said “I know a lot of people from the village who would have gone to Cardigan to see the game but not as far as Ffostrasol on a Monday evening.”
