A TRYING season with relegation from League 2 West ended on a high note for Cardigan who claimed a 41-8 win over fourth in the table Aberystwyth a King George V Playing Field.
When the rivals met at Plascrug on the opening day of the season the north Ceredigion side romped t 78-12 but it was a different story this time around as the Cardis, who finished one off the bottom, got their act together up front and turned in a performance that augers well for next term.
Cardigan scrummaged well and held the aces throughout the opening 40 minutes when they led by three penalties landed by scrum-half Llyr Jones.
The homesters continued in the ascendancy after the oranges and increased their advantage through openside flanker Marcus Castle whose try was no more than his fully-committed showing deserved.
Scrum-half Gethin Davies gave Aber hope with a well-taken try in the final quarter, converted by Gwion Phillips, but Cardigan held out for a deserved win.
