After toughing it up and coming away from Whitland with an 18-7 win under their belts League 1 West promotion contenders Newcastle Emlyn ended the year on a high but in the same division it was not good tidings for Crymych who went down 35-32 at Llangennech and slipped further towards the danger zone.

As the Teifisiders made it eight successes from nine outings despite being pushed hard by a fully-committed Whitland outfit Alun Howells and Dan Havard went in for tries and winger Dan Davies converted one of the scores and landed two penalties.

Sear Coles got a try for the Borderers and James Stephenson added the extras.

There were tries for Crymych for No. 8 Joe Powell, outside half Sam Philips, fullback Carwyn Jones and Carwyn Phillips with Sam Phillips landing three conversions and two penalties.

Liam Hutchings got two tries for the Carmarthenshire villagers and also on the try sheet were Tom Barnes, Ellis Phillips, Dan Griffiths and Josh Skelding. Chris Moore landed a conversion and a penalty.
