A good entry of 65 made their way to the picturesque Pantgwyn Farm near Cardigan for an action packed day of racing hosted by the Teifiside club last month.

The meeting was held in memory of club member Dilwyn Davies, who sadly passed away recently.

The pre 60 classes and metisse class were out first and leading the charge was the popular number one plate of Terry Challinor. Terry rode outstandingly, showing the younger riders of the meeting how it’s done, setting some very quick lap times. With an excellent display of riding on the day, Phil Anslow took a great second place overall after some stiff opposition from Nick Richards in third, who was probably the rider who had travelled the furthest, from Cornwall.

In the pre68 classes, Phil Anslow went one better and took his BSA to the overall win in the up to 350 class from Barrie Townend and Julian Richards, while the over 350 class was a real dogfight between John Cash and Terry Challinor. These two went at it hammer and tongs all day, and both shared a win apiece going in to the final race. Eventually though, Cash got the better start and went on to take the race win and overall from Challinor who finished just three points behind in second. Third overall went to the consistent Phil Anslow, who seemed to be out in every race.

Next to the line were the sidecars, which had a bigger line up than normal. Eirian Rees and Wellies were out on their recently acquired Rotax and were never headed, taking three straight wins and leading every lap in the process. They had such a big lead that they even had time for a chat on the way round. Second each time out were Llandegley’s Shaun and Damien Jones. Andy Proctor and Catarina Jones were third overall after a good scrap with club members Barry Phillips and Anthony Speedy Davies.

The pre 74 class was won by Dan Evans on the 400 husky after an epic battle throughout the day with Elsinore Honda mounted Andy Storey. John Cash took a brace of wins to claim third overall and with it the Cardigan Grand National Shield. Meanwhile further down the field, Welsh Chamnpionship Coordinator Malcolm Herbert took quite a few tumbles, but managed to leave the meeting unscathed, with just his pride dented.

As with previous meetings, the Twinshocks were again the biggest group of the day with every place on the start taken. It was the newly crowned BSMA national motocross champion Shaun Buchan who emerged at the front on all three occasions. He was just too fast on the day for current welsh champion Dan Evans, who managed to challenge the flying Honda man in the third race only to be outdone by Buchan in the final corner before the finish. Evans finished the day with three seconds. Shrewsbury’s Anthony Guest was on fine form taking three third places and will be hoping to move up to second place in the Welsh Championship at the end of the month in Llanthony. Only six points separate second and third place. There is also an outside chance that Buchan could move into the top three.

Final class of the day were the modern support boys. Leading every lap was Shaun Buchan on his yzf450, who had over half a lap lead in every race. Buchan took his second maximum of the day from The KTM’s of Danny Grota and Phil Evans. These two finished tied on points, with Grota getting the nod for second overall after the better third race result.

A well organised day, with some great racing. A big thanks to all the members the Teifiside Club, the Ambulance crew and all the marshalls for a superb event.
