Costcutter Ceredigion Football League
It was business as usual on the opening day of the new season with champions Newcastle Emlyn and runners-up St Dogmaels off to winning starts.
Emlyn made the short journey to Drefach Felindre where the Reds sprang a 4-0 win over a battling Bargod Rangers outfit and showed enough to suggest they can again be a force to be reckoned with.
Attacking livewire Ryan Price bagged a brace for the visitors and the other marksmen were Jake Harris and former St Dogmaels and Cardigan Town left winger Peter Almond who recently joined from Division Two club Cilgerran Rovers.
Saints were forced to pull out the stops by visitors Maesglas who held the villagers for nearly an hour before beginning to run out of steam.
Young substitute winger Josh Grota pounced on a defensive lapse by the Blues to give his side the lead and the impressive Ioan Owen set up Adam Williams to double the advantage from close range.
Fancied Cardigan Town found it tough going against last season’s Division Two champions Llanboidy at King George V Playing Field where a Chris Morgan strike gave the Magpies maximum points.
J Emrys Morgan and Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Davies holders Lampeter Town had few problems in winning 4-0 against promoted visitors Felinfach. As the North Road men fashioned a 4-0 win Steve Lovell, Jason Jones and Gethin Davies were on target and a Felinfach defender put through his own goal.
Aberporth also got off on the right foot with a 2-1 win over New Quay at Parcllyn where John Midgely and Dafydd Owens were on target for the Airmen while Llandysul started with a maximum points haul after a 3-1 win against Crannog at Tir Dref.
