For the first time in its long history Cardigan RFC has appointed a director of rugby to oversee all aspects on the playing side in WRU Division Two West next season.

The new man at the helm is Nigel Smith of Caerleon, Newport, Gwent, who for the past five seasons has been head coach at Caerleon RFC who finished fourth in Division Five West last term.

A PE teacher in Gwent who is retiring shortly and moving to live in St Dogmaels, he will not only be head coach of the first team assisted by forwards coach Marc Phillips, but also have responsibility for the progress of all teams including those in the junior section.

Cardigan life president Ian Gollop said “This is a new appointment for our club. We look forward to Nigel’s input throughout the club and welcome him to the area and Cardigan RFC.”

Pre-season training at King George V Playing Field starts on Tuesday, July 8 at 7pm and a warm welcome is extended to old and new players.
