A maximum haul of points from one of their remaining games, starting with this Saturday’s home confrontation with Maesglas, will see Newcastle Emlyn Reserves crowned Division One champions.

Although held to a 1-1 draw by Lampeter Town at North Road it was another step towards the title for the Reds who surely can’t slip up at this late stage. Inspirational midfielder Mark Evans was on target for Town with leading marksman Gary Davies ensuring that the visitors got a vital point.

There are those who feel Emlyn could have their work cut out against in form Maesglas who warmed up for Saturday’s away assignment with a 12-1 win over hapless Bargod Rangers at Maes Radley.

It was hardly the ideal preparation for Rangers before they take on New Quay in the League Cup Final at Aberaeron on Easter Monday and goes without saying they will have to improve out of all proportion to test the Seasiders in the league centrepiece game.

As the Blues strolled to a comfortable victory former St Dogmaels and New Quay striker Johnny James led the goal-scoring charts with four strikes, Midfielder Zac Morgan hit a hat-trick, Ashley Summers and Craig Gordon bagged a brace of goals apiece and Ricky Woods Holmes completed the rout.

Crannog moved into second thanks to a 4-2 win over visitors St Dogmaels at the Urdd Centre and are the only club that can overtake the leaders.

Even if as seems likely the coastal villagers are unable to pip the pacesetters for the title a runners-up spot would be just reward for a more than useful campaign under manager Dylan Evans

It was 2-2 after the opening 45 minutes when Chris Walsh gave Crannog the lead from the penalty spot and Jake Forbes doubled the advantage before Ioan Owen and John Lumb hit back for the visitors.

Rhydian Roberts regained the lead for Crannog early in the second half and although Adam Williams again squared matters a header by Owen Drew from a free kick gave the homesters the points.

Three days after reaching the final of the Easter Monday League Cup with a 5-0 win over Cardigan Town there were further celebrations in the Seasiders’ camp when notching a 2-1 win at Llandysul. Central midfielder Mark Davies and a header by defender Andy Campbell at a corner did the business for the visitors.

As Aberporth sank Cardigan Town 4-2 at Parcllyn the home goals came via Jedd Townsend, Mathew Smith, John Midgley and Tony Parry.
