Ceredigion has introduced bronze young ambassadors into local primary schools.
Ceredigion now has 84 Bronze Young Ambassadors who are busy promoting and organising sporting opportunities in their schools and their communities. They receive a monthly challenge from the AYP department as well as the weekly task of running a lunchtime club using the Red Dragon Multi Skills session.
Nia Jones, AYP Officer for Cardigan and Llandysul schools said: “The response from schools and pupils for the Bronze Ambassadors’ scheme has been fantastic, we now have 84 BYA’s representing Ceredigion. They have been busy since their training running lunchtime or after-school clubs, helping in their PE lessons, taking warm-ups and promoting sporting opportunities and clubs to pupils in their schools. It an exciting time for the BYA’s with the Commonwealth Baton Relay coming to Ceredigion in May and their involvement in the day will certainly be something to remember.”
In May, the Commonwealth Baton Relay will travel through Ceredigion and as part of the Bronze programme. The AYP department are offering the opportunity for 15 Bronze YAs to become Baton Bearers as part of the Queen’s Baton Relay. AYP Manager Alwyn Davies stated, ‘‘Flash’ events will be held in Cardigan, Aberaeron and Aberystwyth and all 84 Bronze YAs are invited to meet the mascot and walk with the Baton along the route. 5 Bronze YAs will lead the route by carrying the Baton and leading the group in each of the 3 venues.’
