Newcastle Emlyn twin sisters – Maggie and Kathy Howell competed in their first away dressage championship competition over the weekend. Maggie, 16, competed in the Novice Open on Georgia, and Kathryn rode one of Starlight Riding School’s horses, Cariad in the Prelim.
‘ The horses were amazing and really well behaved. They did their best for the girls and twins were so excited. They loved every second of the taking part,’ commented sister Nicola who also trains the girls.
Kathryn was awarded 2nd, 4th and 10th and 6th Overall in the Championship with Maggie coming home with a 2nd, 4th, three 6th placings and a 6th Overall in the Championship. There were 34 riders in Kathryn’s class and over 120 competitors.
Nicola added: ‘ The weather was up and down, sun then hail, then freezing winds but that did not put them off. They are now totally hooked and we are now looking for a bigger horse for Kathryn to start the dressage circuit.’
