Spencers ECA Ltd of Penrhiwllan, near Llandysul saw the launch of a new rally team this week – Spencer Sport. Launched in the company of its supporters, Oil 4 Wales and some of its Brand Ambassadors – stars of the Wales 6 Nations rugby team Rhys Priestland, Ken Owens and Jonathan Davies and former Welsh International Dafydd Jones, the rally team of Jamie Jukes (Spencer ECA Director) and James Morgan have an exciting season ahead.

Created as a division of Spencer ECA Ltd, an established provider of environmental care and construction industry support services, the birth of Spencer Sport is the first step in the company’s initiative to embrace various forms of sport into its working ethos.

Driving the rally car – a purpose built Suzuki Swift kit car prepared by Hockly Motorsport will be former champion National Hunt and Point to Point jockey, Jamie who has turned his attentions from four-legs to four-wheels. Having successfully contested a number of regional rallies during the past two years in his Vauxhall Astra, he decided to embark on a full season of motorsport. Gripped by the rallying bug, he now hopes to bag a championship title in 2014.

‘ As a company, we wanted to create something that would enable us to harness the passion, excitement and competitive edge that only sport can provide,’ said Jamie. He added: ‘ Sport is in my DNA and, whilst I fully accept that my riding days are over now, I have always had a passion for rallying. Added to this, some of Spencer’s work takes place in the forests, which has further fuelled my enthusiasm for the sport.’

Joining Jamie in the car will be the experienced co driver, James. At 23 years old, James is one of Britain’s up and coming co drivers and, having won national titles in 2011 and 2012, is now a member of the MSA’s (Motor Sport Association) Team UK – an initiative created to develop young talent.

Jamie and James have a full season of rallies lined up, the next at the Mid Wales Stages, Newtown in March before finishing at the Wales Rally GB mid November.
