Despite a spirited showing Newcastle Emlyn of Division Two West came up just short as they went down 18-17 against Nant Conwy of Division One North in an exciting WRU Plate round three tie in North Wales.
In the previous round the Red and whites pulled off a giant-killing in defeating Carmarthen Athletic of Division One West and with a little more rub of the green could have caused another shock.
But it has to be said that the North Walians just about deserved the verdict after a dominant performance by the pack.
The visitors led 10-8 after the opening 40 minutes, their points coming from a try by all-action flanker Owain Powell converted by outside half Rhydian Harries who also landed a penalty.
Left winger Gwyon Ellis-Jones got a try for Nant Conwy and fullback Aeron jones landed a penalty.
With No. 8 Carwyn Ellis and scrum-half Ifan Jones outstanding the homesters got on top in the second half and scored a further try through Ellis with fullback Jones converting and landing a second penalty. Powell got a second try for Emlyn.
