Receiving a warm welcome from local girl, Bethan Townsend, new manager of the Cooper’s Arms, the Bloodhounds set off to hunt country to the east of Newcastle Emlyn last week.

As hounds cast, it was a matter of time before the scent was picked up and the music of the black and tans, echo across fields and woodland.

For the Field this was going to be a day to test the skill and trust of both rider and horse. The terrain becoming more challenging as initiative and riding skill came into play. Emily Hughes, leading the Field worked well to find access through cover, to keep within earshot of Huntsman and hounds.

Experienced horsewomen, Cathie Nunn was delighted with her new mount, as both were tested over natural obstacles and steep tree strewn banks. Charley Thomas, remained steadfast at the back of the Field, sitting still at times to allow the natural instincts of her pony to find its way, slaloming down leaf covered banks to drop onto level ground - a real adventure playground for horse and rider. This was hunting country to challenge the best and with some excellent hound work to match.

Boxing Day Meet is at the Guild Hall, with donation to The Mayor’s Charity and New Year’s Meet at Hammet House, Llechryd. Both Meets suitable for all abilities. For further details visit www.westwalesfarmersbloods.com.
