Relief at Emlyn

SIGHS of relief were almost audible among Newcastle Emlyn fans at Ddol Wyber as a last gasp conversion attempt by Dunvant outside half Richard Lewis to win the game for his side sailed just the wrong side of an upright and it finished all square at 18-18.
Whilst a draw was probably a fair result the Teifisiders would have won with something to spare had normally reliable kicker Rhydian Harries not had an off day with the boot.
In what was a cracking game of rugby Emlyn were left to rue missed chances and if they are to climb the Division Two West table will have to be more clinical, starting away against Aberavon Quins this weekend.
Tight-head prop Emrys Davies and fullback Sion Leonard notched tries for the home side and outside half Harries landed two penalties and a conversion.
Right-winger Adam Williams scored a superb try for the visitors converted by Richard Lewis and fullback Aled Lewis landed a penalty before centre Danny Davies went in for a try on the final whistle leaving Emlyn with their hearts in their mouths as Lewis just missed the conversion.
Cardigan emerged 25-11 winners over bottom of the pile Llanybydder and picked up a bonus point with four tries at King George V Playing Field.
In a scrappy affair the Cardis played served up entertaining fare at times but the game was littered with mistakes especially behind the scrum.
The homesters led 17-5 after the opening 40 minutes and although Llanybydder kept plugging away they never looked like pulling the game out of the fire.
No. 8 and skipper Llyr Griffiths, scrum-half Tom Turner and flanker Marcus Castell got tries for the Cardis and they were also awarded a penalty try.
Gethin Davies was the Llan try scorer and right-winger Sion Walker landed two penalties.
