Llechryd on the verge of title

THE CHAMPAGNE is on ice at Llechryd in anticipation of celebrating winning the Pembroke County Cricket League Division Three title with victory over fourth in the table Camrose & Spittal at the Castell Malgwyn ground on Saturday.
A six-wicket home win over Johnston Seconds and defeat for long time leaders Hook against Narberth Seconds enabled John Curran and colleagues to leapfrog their rivals to the summit with a 14-point advantage going into the final day when Hook take on Crymych at Glandy Cross.
As the visitors were restricted to 148-9 paceman James Heneker returned figures of 3-21 and skipper Curran picked up two wickets.
Opener Curran got the reply off to a solid start with an innings of 36 but it was Hugh Lock who set the scene alight with a match-winning 79.
Crymych suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Herbrandston. Batting first the Preselimen posted 157-8 thanks mainly to a fine unbeaten 88 by top order batsman Osian Wyn. As Herb reached the target for the loss of four wickets Jonathan Bennett was unbeaten on 44 and David Malloy not out 27.
