A LOCAL team recently competed on the Tyneside Stages Rally in Otterburn, Northumberland.
Peter James of Llandysul was sitting with John Indri in his Darrian T90 GTR in the fifth round of the Get Connected MSA Tarmac Championship.
The pair had a tremendous battle all day at the front with Steve Simpson and Aberystwyth co-driver Patrick Walsh leading the rally from the start, followed by Damion Cole / James Morgan.
In third place were Simon Mauger / Brian Cammack, followed by Peter and John, who had a big moment on stage 4 resulting in some bodywork damage.
With two stages to run Simpson / Walsh unfortunately lost a wheel and teh Llandysul pair overhauled Mauger.
With one 13 mile stage to run, they threw down the gauntlet and went for broke and took 7s out of Cole’s lead to lose out by just 2s, which was a great effort as the pair were in a two wheel-drive car, compared to Cole's four wheel-drive WRC machine.
Their next event will be the Mewla rally on the daunting Epynt military ranges in Brecon.
