It was a case of mixed fortunes for league clubs in the J Emrys Morgan Cup with five making progress and St Dogmaels left waiting to play their tie against Knighton Town which was postponed due to an unplayable pitch.

After gaining promotion to Division One at the end of last season Newcastle Emlyn Reserves have held their own in the top flight with four wins from seven starts.

And under manager Ollie Humphreys the Reds are making an impact in the Emrys Morgan after travelling to the Wales/England border and springing a 5-1 win over Powys village side Llandrinio.

For the Teifisiders, who led 2-1 at the break, prolific marksman Robbie Jenkins bagged a brace of goals and also on target were Nick Thompson and Gethin Harries while a home defender put through his own goal.

Although going down to a 4-1 away defeat against Cambrian Tyres League leaders Tregaron Turfs there was no disgrace in defeat for Division Two pacesetters Cardigan Town who were in the tie with every chance for 80 minutes.

The Magpies included four 16-year-olds who put up a brave performance. When Sam Hall made the score 2-1 Town were very much in contention but John Lumb failed to capitalise on a one-to-one with the home goalkeeper and in a breakaway move Turfs increased their lead.

Afterwards Town manager Seamus Doherty said “Tregaron are a good side and deserved to go through. But the youngsters in our team will learn a lot for the experience.”

Division One champions New Quay handed out a six-of-the-best caning to Aberystwyth Reserves while leaders Lampeter Town made the long journey to Powys pay dividends with a 5-3 win over Llanrhaeadr.

Aberporth of Division One proved too strong for Llandysul as the Airmen went through to the third round with a 3-1 win.

There was no success for Llanboidy, Felinfach and Crannog who fell by the wayside against opponents from other leagues.

In the first division Bargod Rangers showed they have what it takes to hold their own in the division with a hard-earned but deserved 1-0 win over Maesglas at Parc Puw.

The all important goal came midway through the second period when a cross to the far post found winger Shaun Leonard unmarked and he made no mistake to secure the points for his side.
