THERE were plenty of smiles amidst the rain showers at today's Narberth Food Festival, as the event celebrated its 20th birthday.

A Gordon Ramsay-lookalike mingled with the crowds milling around the dozens of stalls in the festival's massive marquee, while real-life chefs delighted Food Theatre audiences with demonstrations and chat.

Headlining in the Food Theatre was top Welsh chef Bryn Williams, who has just opened his third London restaurant.

He cooked braised sweetcorn and woodpigeon and then joined in a Restaurant Confidential chat with forager Matt Powell and food writer Simon Wright.

A surprise ingredient in the chat was Welsh actor Julian Lewis Jones, who appeared in the film Invictus and tv comedy drama Stella.

Said Narberth Food Festival chairman, Colin Russell: "Although it's a bit wet outside, our marquee is a nice dry environment. We're really pleased that so many people have turned up, which proves that we are an all-weather festival."

Narberth Food Festival continues tomorrow (Sunday), with chef demonstrations by Sarah Philpott, Ludo Dieumegard and Allister Barsby. Matt Powell will be leading a foraging workshop, while there will be a Penderyn whisky masterclass and tutored tasting.

Taking to the music stage will be ElderWood, Jess Dando, Bob Fish & Holly Robinson, Jodie Marie and Carmarthen Ukuleles, and there will be free activities for children.
