Class A drugs were discovered in a forgotten shoe after its owner kicked the habit, a court has heard.

Andrew Paul Lowndes, of High Street, Haverfordwest, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and cannabis when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, July 17.

The court heard that police executed a search warrant at Lowndes’ address on February 11, and discovered 6.39g of diamorphine and 27.3g of cannabis. The total estimated street value of the seized drugs was £909.

Vaughan Pritchard-Jones, prosecuting, told the bench that there was no suggestion that Lowndes, 47, had been dealing the drugs.

He added that Lowndes had previous convictions for drug related offences.

Mark Layton, defending, told the court that the cannabis had been at the property for some time, and had been disregarded on a previous search, and the Class A drugs had been found in a shoe.

“He owns quite a lot of shoes, and he had forgotten about it. His days of using heroin are behind him, he had no intention of using it.”

Magistrates ordered the destruction of the drugs and fined Lowndes £120. He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £30 surcharge.
