STRIKING teachers and the county council have come to an agreement over the future of jobs at Haverfordwest’s new secondary school.

Earlier this year teachers from Sir Thomas Picton School and Tasker Milward School in the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) took industrial action against PCC after negotiations failed.

NASUWT disputed plans by the temporary governing body of Haverfordwest VC High School, the amalgamated new school, to only guarantee secure jobs for staff for 18 months.

Since the strike on June 12, talks have resumed and the two groups have come to an agreement that no redundancies will be made before the end of the 2019/20 school year.

An agreed statement from Pembrokeshire County Council, the NASUWT, and the school governing bodies announced the end to industrial action.

The statement said: “Following discussions with the Conciliation service ACAS regarding the dispute at Sir Thomas Picton and Tasker Milward schools, Pembrokeshire County Council and NASUWT -The Teacher’s Union - have reached agreement regarding any potential redundancies at the schools.

“Both sides look forward to working together in future for the benefit and wellbeing of the pupils.

“It has been agreed that there will be no compulsory redundancies before the end of the academic year 2019/2020.”
