A CHARITY football match in aid of the mental health charity MIND is being organised by a Pembrokeshire mum in memory of her son.

The game on bank holiday Monday will bring together players representing Tenby and Kilgetty, who Philip Yates played for as a youngster.

Said his mum, Alison Yates: “The reason for organising this memorial charity football match between Kilgetty and Tenby is that my late son Philip (Phil) Yates passed away on August 14, 2015, due to depression, and had only been ill for a very short time.

“Mental health illness takes away our loved ones, so many, too young, both male and female.

“Families are left heartbroken as their teenagers and young adults feel they cannot cope any longer or tell their family and friends how they are feeling.”

Phil was a popular local boy who loved football.

He played for Tenby between the ages of six and 13 years, and then joined Kilgetty where he played until he was 16.

His team-mates and friends will be playing in the charity match, which kicks off at Kilgetty AFC Sports Club at 2pm on Monday (May 28).

Entry to the match is free. There will be Fairtrade coffee and tea with cake for sale, alongside a cake stall, and the sports club bar and facilities will be open.

Activities include the chance to have a go on the Fairtrade football shy or get a photo with a giant Fairtrade football, and there’s a raffle with prizes from local businesses and attractions, including entry tickets to Folly Farm, the Dinosaur Park, Manor Park, Hangar 5 and Heatherton.

A signed Swansea City shirt will be up for auction on the day.

Alison is asking anyone who can’t attend on the day to make a donation to MIND on her JustGiving page.

“We couldn’t save my son, but perhaps we can save others,” she said.
