PLANS to give HaverHub a permanent base of operations for community events at Haverfordwest’s old post office are set to be discussed by county council planners.

HaverHub has been operating out of the county town’s former post office on Quay Street since last year, holding events to raise money which will help the group renovate the neo-Georgian building.

The community hub opened with a party attended by patron Jerome Flynn last year, and more recent events have most recently included an all-day motorbike festival, and a pop-up board game café.

Planning permission for a change of use which would allow HaverHub to operate as a full-time community hub will be discussed by Pembrokeshire County Council’s planning committee on Tuesday, May 22.

A report to the committee recommends the permission should be approved.

If given a thumbs up by the councillors on the committee, the old post office would be renovated to allow for a 200msq events space inside.

There would also be a kitchen, toilet and storage area, and the building’s first floor would have office hire space.

Outside in the building’s rear yard, the former car park area would be renovated, with plans to make changes to gates and walls, and to construct planters.

One of the former post office storage sheds would become another 200msq events space, with a mezzanine floor added in.

There are several conditions for the approval, most of which are standard planning conditions which apply to most buildings.

A non-standard condition is that details must be submitted about the rear gates of the building, which are flanked by stone pillars, as well as plans for planters and changes to the walls around the rear of the site.

As the post office is a listed building, a listed building consent application has also been made, which is still being considered by the council.
