TRANSITION Haverfordwest have planted a memorial tree in memory of keen gardener and friend of the group.

On Saturday, March 10, Transition Haverfordwest placed a memorial tree in loving memory of Patricia ‘Pat’ Francis (1944-2015) who died after a short illness.

Chris Evans and Richard Baker from Transition Haverfordwest braved the rainy weather and planted a Conference Pear to accompany the nine varieties of apple, pear and plum already planted on Picton Fields some years ago.

In 2016, Louise Wilson approached Orchard Mawr, a sub-group of Transition Haverfordwest, and asked if they would plant a tree in memory of her Aunt.

Pat, and her husband Paul, were both keen gardeners and Pat had the knack of being able to get anything to grow.

Louise said: “the family will really enjoy watching the tree grow and will think of Pat every time we pass by, we really couldn’t think of anything more fitting.”

After receiving the necessary permission, the tree was eventually planted.

Orchard Mawr is a project started in 2012, which aims to plant 1,000 fruit trees in and around the Haverfordwest area by 2020.

Over the last five years Orchard Mawr has planted nearly 400 fruit trees for the benefit of the residents in and around the county town.

The sites of the fruits trees are Picton Playing Fields, the Lower Racecourse, Merlin's Bridge, Fleming Crescent, Broad Haven and the Paddocks.
