A GUILT-free way of making use of festive food after Christmas has given a tasty boost to the Salvation Army in Tenby.

Temptations lurking in the cupboard after the seasonal celebrations have been gathered together by local Weight Watchers members in a food amnesty to help the Salvation Army in their work with the less fortunate.

Weight Watchers coach Ceri Webb enlisted the support of her group members in Milford Haven, New Hedges and Saundersfoot to donate their unused Christmas goodies.

Explained Ceri: “I came up with the idea of a food amnesty after we were talking in our meetings about all the temptations - not just at Christmas, but beyond into January, when the cupboards were full of food.

“The Weight Watchers members got a clean sweep of their cupboards to assist with their weight-loss journeys, and unwanted foodstuffs would go to a good cause - so win-win!”

An early donation from a member of a large Christmas cake was shared out during the Salvation Army Christmas Day lunch.

This was organised by Ceri’s sister-in-law, Wendie James - one of her family’s volunteers at the Salvation Army - who cooked a delicious lunch for those who would otherwise not have had one, or who would have been alone on Christmas Day.

Added Ceri: “The campaign has been so popular with Weight Watchers members that they have asked for it to be extended to collect donations of food, bric-a-brac and clean, good quality clothing, several times per year.”
