A man is to appear at crown court accused of an attempted rape in Pembroke Dock over the weekend.

Mateusz Szary, 26, appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates from custody on Monday.

Speaking via a Polish interpreter, he stated that he could not remember his current address because he had recently moved.

It is alleged that he attempted to rape a woman in a Pembroke Dock car park in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The charge is so serious that it can only be dealt with by a crown court. Szary, who is from the West London area, also faces charges of criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.

No pleas were entered, but Katy Hanson, defending, told the court that Szary would be denying the allegation of attempted rape in the ‘strongest terms’.

Magistrates remanded Szary into custody until his next court appearance.

He will next appear at Swansea crown court on August 25.
