A local artist was more than double the drink-drive limit when he returned to find police officers at home with his partner, a court has heard.

David Light, 57, of Myrtle Hill, Dinas Cross, pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday.

The court heard that police received a call from Light’s partner just before 1am on June 28, to say that the couple had argued, Light had driven off, and she was locked out of the house.

Officers managed to gain entry and were still at the property when Light returned in his Nissan Pathfinder 40 minutes later, appearing unsteady on his feet with glazed eyes.

A breath test was positive and he was later found to have 78mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit is 35mg.

The bench heard that Light was of previous clean character a clean driving licence.

Magistrates banned Light for 17 months and fined him £120. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

The chairman of the bench said: “This is serious offence, and you were twice the legal limit which is quite concerning.”
