HAVERFORDWEST Operatic Society (HOS) welcomes the public on board the H.M.S Pinafore this evening for the first of three performances at the Torch Theatre.

From today (Wednesday) until Friday, the group will be performing the Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera.

The performance deals with the age-old conundrum of love between social classes and is packed with infectious tunes.

This is the latest stage show that members of the society have been involved in, having supported Swansea City Opera throughout this year for their production of Lakme.

Ivor Phillips, musical director of HOS, has praised the commitment of members involved.

“We are doing nine out of 18 performances with the city opera,” he said.

“It’s a terrific experience to be able to perform and sing on stage with them; we have enjoyed it so much.

“We’ve travelled far and already been to Shrewsbury and Cardiff.”

Performing around the UK, the city opera aims to get local groups involved to sing.

On Saturday, May 27, the tour will come to the Torch Theatre.

HOS secretary Megan said: “They’ve got professional opera singers and actors so it has been a really good experience. It’s been great for the society."

The society has around 30 members who put on new performance each year. Previous productions have included Sweeney Todd, Oliver and The Sound of Music.

The group meet every Monday evening and new members are always welcome.
