Dear Editor, Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM states that he is supportive of renewable energy (View from Cardiff Bay, Wind farm a gusty issue, Carmarthen Journal, June17, 2009) which is akin to saying, I am supportive of all means of transport - a somewhat nebulous statement!
Indeed, I am supportive of renewable energy, but not large scale wind generation, which has many deficiencies and is the source of many absurd claims such as being able to make large savings in CO2 emissions. For sure, many (if not all) electrical companies will admit that large scale wind generation requires a high level of conventional power station backup to guarantee supply i.e. when the wind is not of the correct speed for wind generation. Surely Mr Thomas recognises that wind generation also means the unforgivable industrialisation of our beautiful countryside and the betrayal of future generations?
There is virtually nothing he can claim in defence of wind generation except repeat, parrot fashion, many of the myths that abound in praise of this silly and dated wind technology!
He states he has written to the minister for the environment, sustainability and housing to raise his concerns! Environment, that's a laugh! Why doesn't he call on the Assembly to put an immediate stop to wind generation in Wales - something the majority of his constituents want - something the majority of Wales wants - something called democracy! Has he not learnt anything from Blaen Bowi?
