Women drove with tyres in dangerous state

A woman drove more than 80 miles a day to her job at a care home with two very bald tyres on her car, a court was told.

Rachel Williams, aged 47, of 10 Brynglas, Aberporth, pleaded guilty at Cardigan Courthouse on two counts of using a Vauxhall Vectra with a defective tyre and also admitted two offences of using the vehicle with defecting lights.

Crown prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones said "The tyres were very very bald, one of them down to the cord."

The defendant said she did not realise the tyres were bald.

Fining her £50 on each of the tyre offences and imposing no separate penalty on the defective lights charges presiding magistrate Caroline Whitehead said: "This car was in a dangerous state for a while and you were very lucky."

She was also ordered to pay £60 costs with £15 government surcharge and three penalty points were imposed on her licence.
