Twins put family charity under pressure

AN increase in the birth of twins is putting a local family support charity under pressure.

Ten families with twins have recently turned to Home-Start Ceredigion for help and now the organisation is appealing for more volunteers.

"Sometimes just having a new baby can be difficult but coping with twins can be really hard, especially if you already have young children.

"Our trained volunteers provide that extra bit of support that can make all the difference to family life," said Sharon Morris, scheme manager.

Jenny Pitchford, recruitment officer, said that new volunteers are always welcome. "But now we need them more than ever," she added.

Home-Start recruits and trains volunteers to support families which need extra help because of illness, isolation or if they are just finding parenting a struggle.

The Ceredigion centre also runs six Family Support Groups throughout county and one group in Llandysul has several families with twins attending.

Sue Ridding who is a first time mum with a six month old baby said: "The group has been a life saver, I can share my concerns with other mums and it helps put things in perspective. The mums at the group also got together and persuaded Llandysul leisure centre to re-open the baby swim session on Mondays from 10-11am. I've made new friends and we also get to find out about new things like baby massage."
