After a night out with friends in a local public house a Teifi Valley woman had no intention of driving until a friend who had drunk too much felt unwell and she agreed to drive her home.
Jemma Amanda Louise Hoskins had not driven far when her Volkswagon Golf went out of control on a bend and crashed into the wall of a house.
No-one was hurt in the incident at Pensarn but police arrived and breathalysed the driver who was found to be more than twice the legal drink/drive limit.
Crown prosecutor Dennis Davies related this tale at Ceredigion Magistrates Court when 26-year-old Hoskins, unemployed, of Ash Cottage, Blaenwen Farmhouse, Henllan, pleaded guilty to an excess alcohol offence.
Mr. Davies said she provided a positive roadside breath test and intoximeter tests showed she had 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35.
The defendant, who was not legally represented, told the court “I was not out to drink and drive and I’m truly sorry.”
Fining her £100 with £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge and disqualifying her from driving for 15 months presiding magistrate Peredur ap Llwyd said “I hope you realise how irresponsible and dangerous the action was.”
