Lifeboats rescue injured fisherman

Just one day after rescuing a horse which had fallen down cliffs, the RNLI crew at Cardigan were called to action once again. On Monday night, two RNLI lifeboats - the Atlantic and D Class - were involved in the rescue of an injured crewman aboard a fishing vessel.

The lifeboats were launched after Milford Haven Coastguard became aware of a medical situation on a fishing boat, about two and a half miles north west of Cardigan Island.

It wasn't until the lifeboat arrived on scene that the volunteer crew knew what they were dealing with, the crewman aboard the fishing vessel had injured his leg and needed to be evacuated from the fishing boat to the beach.

After carrying out what first aid was needed and ensuring the patient was as comfortable as possible, he was loaded on to a stretcher and brought back by lifeboat to Poppit beach, where there was an ambulance ready and waiting to take over.

It has been a busy period for the RNLI crew at Cardigan, less than 24 hours earlier, they were involved in helping a horse, which was stuck after falling down the cliffs in Ceibwr, Moylegrove.
