The New Quay RNLI inshore lifeboat was called out urgently on Wednesday afternoon, December 21st to establish whether there were any people on board or in the water in the vicinity of a fast sinking fishing vessel.
The 40 foot fishing vessel, the Catherine Arden, recently refitted at a cost of tens of thousands of pounds, had been moored 200 yards outside the harbour. When the inshore lifeboat, crewed by volunteers Ceri Knapgate, Tim Harrison and Steve Hartley Jr, arrived the vessel was totally submerged apart from a section of the bow. It later sank completely.
The RNLI crew established that there were no casualties and picked up debris before returning to the station
