A jobs boost has come to Cardigan next week with the opening of the new B&Q DIY store, formerly Focus.
Some 19 new full and part time posts have been created, while 14 staff from the old store have also been retained.
B&Q will open on Thursday, with official opening celebrations set for Saturday.
Store manager Mel Griffiths said: “The team, existing and new are excited about the store opening and serving the local community. We’ve had a few weeks to get to know each other and we’re really looking forward to meeting all our new customers.”
In line with the firm’s national policy the new team spans several generations from 19 to 70.
“They may be different in age but they’ve got one thing in common – they’re passionate about DIY and want to help make it easier for all our customers,” said Mel.
The team has been working for more than a month already while the store was re-fitted stocked.
“In the last few weeks we’ve received nearly 15,000 products, we’ve built 13 display kitchens and installed 17 display bathroom suites to ensure the store opens with the best possible range of home improvement and garden products at the best prices,” said a company spokesperson.
B&Q, the largest home improvement and garden centre retailer in the UK and Ireland, took over 30 stores nationwide from Focus, after that firm went into administration earlier this year. Most of the new B&Q stores are set to open this week.
