A spate of vandalism at churches in north Pembrokeshire has prompted police to issue an appeal this week.
“There has been a spate of attacks or anti social behaviour, mostly of a minor nature - but these are leading to the need to lock the churches, and therefore preventing access for people genuinely wishing to spend time in them,” said a spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys police.
Officers want to hear from anyone with any information about suspicious or criminal activity at or near any church.
Fire extinguishers have been let off, altar candles stolen and have also been incidents of people entering churches and altering hymn numbers and switching on all lighting without switching it off, and other minor incidents.
The spokeswoman added: “Police appreciate that the Church is unwilling to and cannot lock all the churches and prevent access, but we would urge those with responsibility for them, or indeed any member of the public living near any church, to be vigilant and report anything suspicious or any problems to them on 101.”
