The emergency services swung into action in Cardigan at the weekend after a report of a person falling into the River Teifi.
Milford Haven Coastguards received a call from Cardigan Police at 18.43pm on Saturday reporting a person falling off the back of a boat into the water near the Quay Street car park.
The two Cardigan RNLI crafts were launched at Poppit Sands and made a thorough search of the area, Gwbert and Penrhyn Coastguards were mobilized, fire appliances, police and ambulance crews attended at the scene and a Sea King helicopter at RAF Chivenor in Devon was put on standby.
After it was ascertained that the incident was a false alarm with good intent a spokesman for HM Coastguard said: “We welcome calls of this nature if people genuinely believe that there is an emergency.”
