Busy time for New Quay lifeboat

The RNLI at New Quay had a busy time last weekend culminating in the saving of a young woman's life.

On Friday morning, June 18th, the all weather lifeboat was called out by the Coastguard to aid a thirty four foot yacht three miles off New Quay head whose engine had broken down due to a broken fanbelt. The yacht was towed back to New Quay in good sea conditions where the grateful crew arranged the repair and continued their journey on the next day.

On the following morning, the inshore lifeboat was alerted to investigate the discovery of an unattended rucksack left all night on a nearby beach. Happily, no one was in danger and the owner was later reunited with his belongings.

Much more seriously, on Monday night at 11pm the inshore boat was alerted to rescue a young woman in distress some forty metres off Traeth Gwyn. She was weighed down by her clothes and in a life threatening condition when the rescue craft arrived crewed by Brett Stones, Tim Harrison and Peter Yates. The casualty was taken to the pier at New Quay and subsequently transferred to an ambulance. Lifeboat Operations Manager Roger Couch commented, "This incident demonstrates the benefit of having a lifeboat station close at hand manned by rapid reaction crews, putting to good use the funding raised by the public nationally and locally".
