TV actor Jerome Flynn, who played a wildlife detective in the TV programme ‘Badger’, is supporting the campaign against the badger cull in north Pembrokeshire.
He spoke at a public meeting organised by Pembrokeshire Against the Cull last week.
Afterwards he told the Tivy-Side: “I’m an animal lover. The cull does not make sense, hearing it from farmers who are passionate about animals and the land made me want to show my support to try and stop it happening.”
He added: “It seems clear to me that a vaccination programme is cheaper, less damaging and less stressful to the community. I have land with badgers on and I love the fact that they are there. There are so few wild animals that we have left. The thought of men coming on to the land and killing them is unthinkable to me.”
PAC is calling on the Welsh Assembly Government to vaccinate badgers instead of killing them.
More than 200 local residents who oppose the cull filled the hall at Rhosygilwen for the public meeting last Monday.
Dr Gavin Wheeler, who has farmed in the area for 15 years, put forward the case for vaccination. “Vaccination has scientific support. It’s cheaper and there is no need for draconian forced entry. It is far less divisive and distressing,” he said.
