Five of Ceredigion’s popular bathing beaches will again be flying the coveted International Blue Flag this year.
Aberporth, Llangrannog, Tresaith, New Quay Harbour and Borth have all made the mark in terms of cleanliness, safety and services and facilities for beach users.
The award is recognised world wide as a mark of quality.
Jane Davidson, minister for the environment, sustainability and housing will officially announce the awards at a ceremony in New Quay today (Tuesday).
Cllr Gethin James, chairman of Aberporth Community Council said: “This is great news for our communities. Certainly in Aberporth we do everything we can as a community to ensure our beaches meet these high standards and we are very pleased to have this result. Of particular note is the work we have done here on disabled-friendly facilities.”
Cllr Eurfyl Evans, Ceredigion Cabinet member with responsibility for economic development and tourism, said: “We can be proud of the fact that our beaches are amongst the best in the world. Once again, this is a clear indication that Ceredigion County Council is committed to investing in the services and facilities it provides at its beaches for the benefit of local residents, the tourist industry and the economy of Ceredigion.”
