Edryd is new Urdd president

It was announced in Urdd Gobaith Cymru’s Council that Edryd Eynon will be the organisation's President for this year.

Edryd received his education at Ysgol Beca, Efailwen and Ysgol Uwchradd y Preseli. Edryd continued his studies at Aberystwyth University where he graduated with a degree in Welsh and Welsh History.

The Urdd has always played a prominent part in Edryd’s life over the years. He participated in the Urdd’s competitions every year, both on stage and on the sports fields.

After years of competing at the Urdd Eisteddfod, Edryd is now a teacher at Ysgol Gynradd Bro Brynach, Llanboidy and as such is responsible for preparing children for the festival each May.

Edryd is a member of the Urdd’s Local Committee in Cwm Taf as well as Pembrokeshire’s Regional Committee. He’s the Leader of the Urdd Adran (Junior Urdd Club) and Aelwyd (Senior Urdd Club) at Ffynnonwen, where he thoroughly enjoys organising various activities for the members on a weekly basis.

Edryd said; ‘‘After competing regularly as an individual and in groups at the Urdd Eisteddfod, sharing my experiences with the younger generations at Ysgol Bro Brynach and both Ffynnonwen Aelwyd and Adran is a privilege. I received valuable opportunities as an Urdd member over the years and it will be a great honour to be President over the next year. I’m looking forward to the challenge and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.’’ Efa Gruffudd Jones, Urdd Gobaith Cymru’s Chief Executive said; ‘‘It’s great to see someone who has given so much to the organisation over the years being elected Urdd President. I am looking forward to a year of working happily with our new President, and I’m sure that his enthusiasm, energy but most of all his wealth of knowledge will be of great value over the next year.’’
