Ceredigion’s Welsh Liberal Democrat MP Mark Williams has presented a petition in Parliament calling for scallop dredging to be limited on the basis of scientific assessments.
There is currently an interim ban in place after concerns about the effect of scallop dredging, and survey work is due to be carried out before the start of the next season.
Commenting, Mark Williams said: "There has been much concern over this matter in Cardigan Bay, and it was good to be able to raise this matter again in the House of Commons.
"I am pleased that we now have an opportunity to assess the extent of any damage caused and that proposals can be put forward to ensure that we can support sustainable fishing in the Bay.
"The Marine Bill will give the Welsh Assembly Government more options over fisheries, and I will be urging them to develop a coherent approach, based on the evidence available."
