THE search is on to find a town crier who can call the people of Cardigan to order.
The town’s Chamber of Commerce is looking for a man or woman to take on the role in time for this year’s Victorian Night.
An outfit and bell are waiting and bilingual auditions in will be held in the newly refurbished Guildhall next week.
"We felt having a town crier would add to the authenticity of the Vicporian Night event, when we will have many traditional entertainments, music and carol singing as well as switching on the Christmas lights, a parade and a visit by Santa," said Chamber chairman, Paul Oakley.
"And with celebrations starting soon for the 900th anniversary of Cardigan in 2010, we felt there might be much more work available from many local organisations for a town crier next year too."
Town mayor, Cllr Mark Cole said: "I wholeheartedly support this idea and I hope the town council will back it too."
Cllr Cole will be one of the judges along with Victorian Night committee members Paul Oakley, Caroline Sommerville and Neal Jones.
There will be just one audition session – on Thursday, November 12, between 7pm and 8pm, in Cardigan’s Guildhall. Anyone who wants to apply can just turn up on the night, or call Paul Oakley on 01239 613966 for more information.
The plan is that the appointed crier will be supplied with an outfit and paid an agreed hourly rate for his or her work.
Applicants must be able to work in Welsh and English. Men and women are all welcome to apply.
