Plaid Cymru’s Elin Jones AM has urged community groups to explore the possibilities offered by the Assembly Government’s new Community Asset Transfer Programme.

The programme – which will run for three years from October 2009 – comes as a result of an official partnership between the One Wales Government and the BIG Lottery Fund in order to provide financial assistance for the transfer of ownership of assets from Public Sector Bodies to community groups and third sector organisations.

The fund will be worth £13 million over the next three years and aims to contribute to the regeneration and strengthen communities.

Commenting on the new fund, Ceredigion’s Elin Jones AM said: "I know that many local community groups have already benefited under the Assembly Government’s existing Community Facilities and Activities Programme, with Lampeter Swimming Pool and Felinfach Memorial Hall being the latest to benefit from this particular fund to improve their facilities.

"However, the new Community Asset Transfer Programme aims to make it easier for communities to take ownership of publicly-owned assets. I’m sure that this new fund will provide many exciting possibilities for local community groups and organisations in Ceredigion and I hope that they will consider making an application for support via the BIG Lottery fund".
