LOCAL businesswoman Clare Price is currently building up her pedal-power in a bid to raise funds for Llandysul Swimming Pool.

She's training to cycle up to 900 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats and hopes to raise up to £15,000 to replace all the windows at the pool, where she is vice-chair of the committee. Currently taking a year off work, Clare sold her Clare's Petz business last November. She's planning her fundraising trip for September.

This is the latest entry in her training diary I started off June by getting on the train at Carmarthen and getting off it in La Rochelle, France some 12 hours later, with bike dismantled in a bike bag. I had to take a day off the next day to recover from the journey and enjoy the fantastic food that the city has to offer - such hard work !

The next day saw me on my way... with some difficulties, one with my pannier rack, and the second with getting lost, typical woman I hear you say. Anyway, eventually got about 76 miles under my belt instead of 66 and arrived at Melle for the night and couldn't find a B and B - aagghh- but sigh of relief when I got rescued by an English couple in their converted barn who fed me, gave me a bed for the night, breakfast and packed me on my way the next day. With sore muscles, saddlesore and another 75 miles I arrived at Bellac in the Limousin region.

I stayed in Bellac a day, ate and walked my way around the area and then started back towards La Rochelle arriving there three days later ready to eat my fill at some of the over 300 restaurants (I wonder why I put on weight ?!).

Since getting back from France I have been getting in about 120 miles on the bike each week. The next long ride planned will be Aberystwth and back - anybody up for it ?
