Bath-house ‘will create 600 jobs’

The proposed £50m Bath House site will create up to 600 new jobs, developers claimed this week.

Liberty Mercian, the South Wales based developer behind the scheme, says that its plans will help to deliver a sustainable future for the town.

The plans for the site will see between 550 and 600 new jobs being created through the construction of one food retail store and three non-retail units, with further new jobs anticipated through the proposed hospital, healthcare centre and social housing scheme which makes up the rest of the development.

Emyr Williams, Development Director, Liberty Mercian said: "To be able to confirm that the Bath House scheme will deliver more than 600 new jobs for Cardigan is fantastic news for the town.

The Bath House scheme will also see more than 600 new jobs being created at a time when there are concerns not only about the current economic climate, but also, the long term prospects for rural areas in Wales. When you add in the anticipated further jobs that will come from the other aspects of the scheme, such as the hospital and health centre, as well as the associated service industries that will supply the businesses located on the Bath House site, then you will realise that it will have a very significant positive impact on Cardigan's economy indeed.

"The investment that Liberty Mercian is making in the town is a clear indication of the confidence that we and other business have in Cardigan, and in the Bath House plans in particular. We are constantly in active discussions with top quality retailers regarding our ongoing schemes nationwide and it is clear that they also share our confidence in Cardigan.

"Liberty Mercian has a proud record of working with councils and leading retailers to deliver similar schemes throughout the UK, which provide real benefits and regenerate whole towns and communities. We can point to schemes across Wales in places such as Wrexham, Pontardawe, Holyhead, Llandudno Junction and Ammanford where we have helped to regenerate the local area and this is very much our aim with Bath House."
