Penparc PO in danger

THE post office in Penparc has been added to the list of those earmarked for closure in south Ceredigion. County MP Mark Williams has expressed his anger at the decision.

He explained that as a result of two POs in the central Wales region being reprieved, the Post Office have had to look for further closures, and have added the Penparc office to the list. There will now be a separate consultation process for this proposal.

Mr Williams said: "I am appalled that none of Ceredigion's Post Offices have been saved, and I am furious that to add insult to injury we could yet lose another branch.

"All of the people who have taken so much time to try and save their Post Offices will be feeling very disillusioned at the whole process, which will leave many of our communities in a desperate state."

"We will now have a separate consultation for Penparc, and I think it is important that local people make their concerns known, despite today's disappointing announcement. I will of course assist anyone who wants to challenge this new closure decision.

"It is nothing short of a disgrace that despite Postwatch voicing their deep concerns about the proposals in Pontsian, Llanddewi Brefi, Llanilar and Llangeitho, the Post Office are still planning to axe all four. I hope that Postwatch will be successful in their attempts to reverse the decisions, but if today's announcement is anything to go by, that is something of a forlorn hope."

Closures are going ahead as planned at Glynarthen and the mobile service at Blaenannerch. Bricks-and-mortar Post Offices will be replaced by mobile services at Dihewyd and Talgarreg.
