Man denies harassment

A man accused of harassing a woman by shouting obscenities at her from her back garden late at night and destroying a plant pot has denied the offences and is to stand trial at Cardigan Courthouse this Thursday.

Kevin David Taylor, aged 22, of Flat 5, Maes Y Felin, North Park, Cardigan, and represented by Colin Taylor, is charged with causing criminal damage and harassment, alarm or distress, the offences allegedly committed at Felinban, Cardigan on August 3.

On Thursday prosecutor Maggie Hughes made a bad character application in respect of Taylor, who was in custody and did not attend court.

The prosecutor submitted that Taylor's previous convictions for similar offences constituted important explanatory evidence and she asked that they be allowed to be part of the prosecution evidence.

Opposing the application Mr. Taylor argued that his client's previous convictions could be more prejudicial than useful.

In agreeing to have the evidence put forward presiding magistrate Ian Rolph said he and his colleagues felt it was justified as it showed that the defendant had a propensity to commit like offences.
