Plaid select new candidate

Plaid Cymru members in Ceredigion have selected Penri James as the party's candidate in the next Westminster General Election which is expected to be held in 2009.

The process to select Plaid Cymru's candidate for Ceredigion started during May 2007 and culminated last Saturday with the announcement that members had selected Plaid Cymru's County Councillor for the Tirymynach ward, Penri James.

Following the announcement on Saturday, Cllr Penri James said: "It is an honour and a privilege to be selected as Plaid Cymru's candidate in Ceredigion. I was born and brought up in this constituency and I have also chosen to raise my own family in Ceredigion. I am well aware of the challenges which face the county and its people today having been a County Councillor for the Tirymynach ward since 1993, and I will draw on this experience during the election campaign".

Plaid Cymru's AM for Ceredigion and the One Wales Government's Minister for Rural Affairs, Elin Jones, further commented: "Penri is an experienced and hard working local campaigner and over recent months he has been at the forefront of Plaid Cymru's campaign to oppose the replacement of the fresh meals on wheels service in Ceredigion with frozen ready-meals. I have worked closely with Penri on many occasions and I am confident that he has the knowledge and experience to be an excellent representative for Ceredigion".
