ONE of the most iconic hotels in the Cardigan area, the Black Lion in High Street, is to re-open under new management in the near future after being closed for two years.

The three-storey former coaching inn was purchased in 2009 by a native of the town and now of Crymych former building contractor Peter Phillips.

The hotel ceased trading in 2016 when the then lease holders left the area .

Confirming that the Black Lion is to re-open within two or three weeks, Mr Phillips said there were one or two minor details to be ironed out and the couple taking over – he is a native of Cardiff and his wife is from Newcastle Emlyn – propose to be open for business sooner rather than later.

With the outstanding success of Cardigan Castle there has been a large influx of visitors to the town in recent times and the re-opening of the Black Lion is seen as another boost for the community.

“It will obviously be good for the town,” said Mr. Phillips, who added that further details would be announced shortly.
