A SECOND severe weather in the space of a couple of days has been issued by the Met Office for the Cardigan area.

The yellow alert is for persistent and heavy rain, whipped up by strong winds, across Wales and northwest England between 4am and 10pm on Thursday (September 20),

A Met Office spokesman said: “An area of rain is expected to move northeast across many parts of the UK on Thursday. Rain is likely to be most persistent and heaviest across parts of Wales and northwest England.

“40-60 mm of rain is likely widely across the warning area, while some of the higher ground of north Wales and perhaps Cumbria could see 80-100 mm. In addition to the rain, strong winds and coastal gales can be expected across southern parts of the warning area.

“Spray and flooding on roads will make journey times longer, while bus and train services will probably be affected. Some interruption to power supplies and other services, with flooding of a few homes and businesses is also likely.”
