SIXTH Form students were celebrating outstanding A-level results across the Tivyside area.
At Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi, thirty per cent of the grades awarded were at A*-A, almost 50 per cent of the grades were awarded at A*-B, and 81 per cent at A*-C.
Eighty per cent of the students are going on to study at the university of their choice, and all the others have successfully applied for apprenticeships or are going directly into the world of work while 100 per cent of students achieved the level 3 threshold (at least two A Levels at grades A*-E). 
The Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification also proved very successful this year, with 98 per cent of candidates achieving the full Advanced Level Skills Challenge Certificate, 90 per cent of them at grades A*-C. 
A total of 49 per cent of the Welsh Baccalaureate grades were awarded at grades A* to B, and 26 per cent of the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate grades were awarded at A* or A.
Notable successes included Benjamin James (A*A*A*A) who will study medicine at University College London; Kacper Rawicki (A*AAAB) who will study mathematics and physics at Warwick University; Angharad James (A*AAA) who will study medicine at the University of Newcastle; Sara Hazzelby (A*AAB) who will study veterinary biosciences at Aberystwyth University; Jo Wood (A*AA and Merit Level 3) who will study geography at Swansea University; Jack Davies (A*ABB) who will study civil engineering at Swansea University; Jordan Godfrey (AAA and Merit Level 3) who will study geography at Exeter University; Catrin John (A*ABC) who will study primary education at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David; Eleanor O’Sullivan (AABC) who will study geography at the University of Southampton, and Bradley Roberts (AABC) who will study mechanical engineering at Swansea University.

Newcastle Emlyn School pupils are celebrating another set of excellent A-level results.

Headteacher Hugh Thomas said: “The consistent success over recent years is a tribute to our hard-working students, the support of parents and the dedication of our excellent staff at Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn.

“The school is very proud of all the students, nearly all of whom have gained a place in their first choice university. I would like to congratulate all of our students and express my gratitude to the staff for their hard work and to the parents and the governing body for their support. We wish all our students every success in the future.”

A total of 22 per cent of grades were A* or A, with 48 per cent of grades at A*-B and 78 per cent of grades were at A*-C.

Notable successes included: Charlotte Brookes (A, A, A, B), Suzie Coldman (A*, A*, A, A), Caleb Evans (A, A, B, B), Abi Haywood (A* A* B, C), Cerys Legg (A, A, B, B), Scott Lote-Williams (A, B, B, Distinction*) and Harry Williams (A, A, B, Distinction*).

At AS-level, Benjamin Dodd, Tiffany Edmonds, Cerys Lloyd, Seren Moody, Gwenllian Peckham, Ella Smith, Molly Smith and Edward Upton all achieved high grades.

Ysgol y Preseli pupils also enjoyed another outstanding set of A-level results.

Of the 102 students who sat A-level examinations at the Crymych school, 35 per cent of grades were awarded at A*-A; 85 per cent at A*-C and 99 per cent A*-E.

Headteacher Michael Davies said: “This is yet another impressive set of results and I am delighted that so many of our students have done so well.

“I am particularly pleased that the vast majority have attained places at the universities of their choice, apprenticeships and employment and all at the school wish them every success in the future.”

Tess Moran from Narberth has been awarded a full scholarship by the Sutton Trust US programme, which is run in partnership with the US/UK Fulbright Commission to study at Barnard College, University of Columbia, New York. The school wishes her every success in the future.

Among the top performers were: Hannah Matthews (4A*, A); Thomas Rees (4A*); Megan Matthews (2A*, 2A, B); Tess Moran (2 A*, 2A); Lucy Billing (2A*, 2A): Hannah Page-Harries (2 A*, 1A); Pheobe Twigg (2A*, 1A, 1C); Hawys Davies (1A*, 2A, 1B); Alex Varney (1A*,2A); Elen Roach (1A*, 2A, 1C); Tatsuki Dale Thomas (3A); Hamish Lewis (3A); Matthew Roch (3A, 1B); Nia Lloyd (3A, 1C); Ella Phillips (1A*, 2A, 1C); Zoe Phillips (1A*, 2A, 1C).

Ysgol Bro Teifi pupils and staff at the Llandysul school were incredibly pleased with this year’s A-level results. All pupils successfully secured university placements or work-based training.

There was a marked increase in the number of A* and A grades with 29 per cent managing to attain the highest grades and with 80 per cent of pupils being awarded A*-C grades.

This year, pupils have chosen a wide variety of destinations, ranging from Welsh in Aberystwyth, chemistry in Warwick, journalism in Cardiff and history in Leeds.

In addition, many pupils have secured scholarships for their chosen university with Heledd Ainsworth winning the coveted William Salesbury Scholarship from the Coleg Cymraeg, as well as gaining 3A* and 1A grade in her A levels.
